Why Thai people love their water served in glass bottles

This year, I visited Thailand for the first time and made three consecutive visits just in 2023 alone.

I generally wouldn’t care what kind of bottled water gets placed in the hotel rooms, but after three visits, I realized that whether it was in Bangkok or Koh Samui, the drinking water in hotels was always in glass bottles.

I thought that it was primarily an environmental choice because Thailand is such a touristy country, and large surges of tourists meant a lot of waste generated.

However, my Thai friend told me that it was about “honorability”.

: Heh?!

: Drinking out of a glass bottle is more honorable, that’s why if you had the choice, you’d get your water in a glass.
