💩 sounds very unfavorable as an English nickname, but it means "crab 🦀" in Thai, and a common one too. So don’t feel weird when you hear it on the streets in Bangkok.

People are usually nicknamed after very weird things given by their parents and some adopt aliases given to them by friends, and oftentimes, they are not related to their official names.

Some people even have porn (blessing), tid/tit (as part of Tidporn or Titporn), nŏn (worm), ûan (Fat), moo (🐷),trees 🌳, ice ❄️, and donuts 🍩 as nicknames. If the nickname is edible, then it means it's what the mom enjoyed while she was pregnant carrying the child.
